Things are Popping with the Remschneiders!

"Isn't it sad that Valparaiso is home of the Popcorn Fest and we don't have a local vendor?" asked Tina, manager of events in Valparaiso, Indiana. Doug and Julie looked at each other and said, "We love popcorn!" The seed was planted! Julie and Doug went home and called the largest manufacturer of kettle corn who sent them a video and sample of popcorn. Julie & Doug knew they had a hit when the popcorn was all gone before the video ended!

Three weeks before the Valparaiso Popcorn Fest, a truck with a lift gate dropped two crates in Julie and Doug's front yard. It was all the equipment to start Remschneider's Kettle Corn: counter, tent, popper and the vintage recipe.

At 5:00 a.m. on September 9, 2011, Doug and Julie set up their shiny new equipment, set out all of ingredients and waited. The vendor in the next tent looked over and asked, "Are you going to start making popcorn?" Just as Doug responded, "I can make 12 cups of popcorn in this kettle," a line formed. And it never stopped. Until 6:30 p.m. when the Popcorn Festival ended. It was a family affair. Julie's dad stepped in to pop corn, Julie's mom helped customers, students from the local high school helped out.

After that first year, Doug and Julie started to make the custom flavored popcorn. First Only making regular popcorn - following year, started adding flavors. First carmel, then cheese.

Each bag of popcorn is made to order with resounding applause!

To make Remschneider's Kettle Corn, the kettle is heated to 1450 degrees. Doug pours in the corn oil and throws a handful of kernels into the kettle. When he hears popping, it's ready to go. Julie dumps in the popcorn and sugar and Doug starts stirring. As the kernels pops, it's like roaring applause! When the applause dies down, the popcorn is tumbled into large sorters that sift out the smaller kernels. What Julie and Doug send to you is the largest, fluffiest and freshest popcorn!

Seven Step Rule - no not Seven Steps to Making Popcorn....
When Remschneider's Kettle Corn was first established, Doug learned about the Seven Step Rule. Customers who taste a sample of the popcorn and walk away.....seven steps later, they turn around to come back to buy a bag.
